BCC is Your BFF

For those who don't know, BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy. When you e-mail a group of people using the BCC field instead of the To field, the recipients of that e-mail will not see who else the email was sent to. This can be very useful and in some cases necessary when communicating with people outside of the organization.

As a general rule of thumb, if you are sending an email to more than 6 people outside of your organization, you should use the BCC field. Another way of looking at it would be to ask yourself if any one of the recipients hit reply-to-all, would you want their reply to be seen by everyone?
So next time you are about to hit send on that mass email, pause and ask yourself if you should be using BCC instead.
